Strong wind blows Matt Smith’s chances while Angie Smith encounters a starting line setback in Ohio

MINNEAPOLIS — June 28, 2016 — The fifth race weekend for the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Pro Stock Motorcycle Drag Racing Series, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, saw Matt Smith of Victory Racing’s® Drag Race Team qualify No. 3 with the second-quickest elapsed time in the first round but bow to Angelle Sampey in Sunday’s second round of Eliminations.

Showcasing Victory’s commitment to deliver Modern American Muscle, Victory Racing’s NHRA team is comprised of NHRA power-couple Matt and Angie Smith and their Pro Stock, custom Victory Gunner drag bikes. Matt boasts two World Champion titles and seventeen career wins. Angie, Matt’s wife and Victory Racing’s Drag Race Team partner, has blasted down the strip to three quarterfinal appearances.

Smith’s Gunner made a pass of 6.879 seconds at 195.36 mph in the first round, but the wind slowed him to 6.909 seconds and 192.96 mph against Sampey. Smith had been 12-5 against Sampey in prior events.
